(Reporter Song In-kwon)= The International Northern Ssireum Federation (INSF) has officially introduced the ‘National Transmitter’ system to strengthen the global preservation and transmission of Northern-style Ssireum, a traditional sport rooted in the 2018 UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage designation.
Under the newly established framework, each country’s National Cultural Headquarters is granted the authority to recommend one official representative to serve as the National Transmitter. This policy ensures that the authentic lineage, techniques, and traditional values of Northern-style Ssireum are safeguarded with the highest level of exclusivity and authority worldwide.
While individual National Cultural Headquarters have the flexibility to either take on the role directly or appoint a qualified expert through a formal recommendation, final approval remains anchored to the INSF to maintain rigorous global standards.
By combining single-representative transmittership with structured local leadership, the INSF aims to fortify its central governance while expanding the global reach and cultural prestige of traditional Ssireum.
