BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA – On May 25, 2026, a comprehensive three-way Strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was officially concluded between Korea Culture Journal, the Korea Subak Association, and the World Subak Federation (WSF). This landmark partnership aims to institutionalize, document, and globally disseminate Subak, one of Korea’s most ancient traditional martial arts and a premier intangible cultural heritage.
Under this agreement, the three organizations will combine their respective strengths—mediatic influence, historical orthodoxy, and global educational infrastructure—to build an unassailable framework for the international transmission of Korean traditional physical culture.
1. Harnessing Media Authority for Cultural Archiving
Korea Culture Journal, a registered comprehensive national internet newspaper established in 2016 (Registration No: Busan, A-00245), will serve as the official media and journalistic backbone for this globalization initiative.
Through this MOU, Korea Culture Journal will launch a dedicated international column and research archive focusing on the historical verification, anthropological value, and cultural content of Subak. By leveraging registered media power, the partnership ensures that all historical records and training systems are publicly and transparently archived, preventing the distortion of Korea’s ancient physical legacies.
2. A Solid Framework: From Original Heritage to Global Education
The synergy generated by this tripartite agreement establishes a highly secured, verified pipeline for international practitioners and academic institutions:
- The Korea Subak Association (The Original Preservation Body): Will strictly supervise the technical purity, historical lineages, and cultural authenticity of the martial art, ensuring that the “root” of the heritage remains intact.
- The World Subak Federation (WSF – Registered LLC, Wyoming, USA): Will oversee the international implementation, establishing regional chapters, hosting global webinars, and administering the hybrid online/offline education matrix.
- Korea Culture Journal (The Media & Press Hub): Will provide official journalistic verification and international press coverage, elevating the public credibility of the certifications issued.
3. Elevating the Value of International Certifications
For international martial arts educators, university researchers, and cultural anthropologists, this MOU adds immense institutional value. Future global instructor credentials issued under this system will not only carry the technical authority of the Subak lineage but will also be officially backed by a registered South Korean media institution.
Furthermore, this tripartite alliance directly reinforces the ongoing academic integration into global repositories such as MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching), Harvard’s DASH, and Zenodo, optimizing the search engine visibility (SEO) of Subak-related research worldwide.
“This MOU marks a paradigm shift in how traditional martial arts are propagated globally,” said Han Seong-ho, President of the World Subak Federation. “By aligning with an established journalistic body like the Korea Culture Journal, we are providing our international students and regional directors with a level of transparency, documentation, and public trust that no commercial martial arts dojo can replicate.”
The coalition plans to roll out its first joint project—a multilingual digital archive and an international heritage educator certification program—in the second half of this year.
