Korea Culture Journal Launches “Silk Road Living Heritage Initiative (SRLHI)” to Preserve Ancient Warrior Traditions

(Reporter Song In-kwon)= In celebration of International Youth Day, the Korea Culture Journal, a media partner of the UN SDG Publishers Compact, is proud to announce the launch of the Silk Road Living Heritage Initiative (SRLHI). This global campaign aims to highlight, archive, and promote the diverse traditional wrestling and warrior cultures scattered across the Silk Road nations.

The SRLHI is designed as a digital movement to foster cultural solidarity and preserve intangible heritage as outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically target 11.4. By utilizing digital platforms, the campaign will serve as a global archive where the rich history of traditional wrestling—often considered the “soul” of ancient warrior culture—is shared, studied, and celebrated.

Expert Curation and Global Engagement The initiative is supported by the International Northern Ssireum Federation (INSF), which serves as the technical and academic partner. Instead of a competitive tournament, the SRLHI utilizes a “Curation & Spotlight” model. Each month, the Korea Culture Journal will highlight the traditional wrestling culture of a specific Silk Road nation.

A committee of experts from the INSF will provide historical and technical commentary for each featured culture, ensuring that the archived content serves as a valuable academic resource for future generations.

A Call to Action for Global Youth “This initiative is not a competition, but a digital festival of cultural preservation,” said the editorial team at Korea Culture Journal. “We invite the youth of the Silk Road to join us in documenting their heritage. By sharing videos and information about their local traditions, they become the custodians of their own history.”

The campaign will officially commence its first monthly spotlight in August, coinciding with International Youth Day. Throughout the year, the SRLHI will build a comprehensive digital database of Silk Road warrior traditions, promoting cultural diversity and fostering mutual respect among nations.

About the Project The Silk Road Living Heritage Initiative is a public-interest project organized by the Korea Culture Journal and academically verified by the International Northern Ssireum Federation (INSF). For more information, please visit our official social media channels.
