(Reporter Kim Min-jeong) = The International Ssireum Federation (INSF, President Song Jun-ho), which has been preserving and internationally promoting ‘Ssireum’—listed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity—has expressed support for the vision of ‘Europeana,’ Europe’s largest digital platform for cultural heritage, to build a public AI ecosystem.
Europeana recently published a paper titled ‘The case for Public AI: making it happen with cultural heritage,’ presenting a vision that cultural heritage data should become the core foundation of an AI ecosystem for the public good, moving beyond commercial gain.
Europeana requested that the International Ssireum Federation, a member organization of its network, widely disseminate the core values and vision of this paper and promote its utilization. In response, INSF delivered a letter of support and plans to strive to ensure that the data assets of Northern-style Ssireum, a Korean national heritage, secure public accessibility and are standardized within the international digital ecosystem.
Based on a non-profit LLC in the United States, the International Northern Ssireum Federation currently operates a global network spanning approximately 10 countries.
INSF is expected to play an even more leading role as an “International Stakeholder” in the future regarding the digital transformation of cultural heritage and the formulation of international policies by relevant institutions, such as the National Heritage Administration of Korea and the National Assembly.
