As June approaches, international discussions surrounding the preservation of traditional physical culture and martial heritage continue to expand through digital platforms.
The World Subak Federation recently shared a case study within the UNESCO-UNEVOC community forum, presenting data related to the global dissemination of Korean traditional physical culture through multilingual digital educational content.
The forum post focused on audience engagement statistics gathered from the federation’s educational YouTube channel over a seven-day period. According to the shared data, viewers from more than 15 countries accessed content related to Korean traditional combat movement, historical martial practices, and embodied cultural knowledge.
Particular attention was drawn to audience engagement outside Korea. Viewers from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, France, and Russia demonstrated meaningful viewing durations, suggesting sustained interest in Korean traditional movement culture beyond its original cultural context.
The federation stated that its ongoing activities emphasize:
- digital preservation of traditional movement knowledge
- multilingual educational dissemination
- historical martial arts documentation
- community-based online learning
- open-access cultural archiving
The case study was shared as part of an international community discussion related to digital education resources (OER) and cultural preservation methodologies.
The World Subak Federation noted that modern digital platforms may serve as practical tools for safeguarding endangered traditional physical culture in the contemporary era.
