Korean Delegation to UNESCO Responds to INSF Inquiry on the International Transmission of Northern-Style Ssireum

Guide to Understanding the International Preservation and Transmission of Northern Ssireum and Cooperation with Relevant Ministries Promoted by the International Northern Ssireum Federation, Presented by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The International Northern-Style Ssireum Federation (INSF) has received an official response from the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Korea to UNESCO regarding the international preservation and transmission of Northern-Style Ssireum.

In its response, the Korean Delegation to UNESCO stated that it had reviewed the subject concerning the international preservation and transmission of Northern-Style Ssireum. The Delegation further advised INSF to communicate with Korea’s competent heritage institutions, including the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea and the UNESCO International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (ICHCAP), in order to obtain practical support and professional guidance.

The response is significant because the inquiry was reviewed and answered directly by the Korean Delegation to UNESCO rather than being simply transferred to another institution.
